A Minefield of Acronyms –
ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, oh my!
Employee benefit and welfare plan compliance can be a moving target. This month’s presentation will provide an overview of what’s new after tax reform and what else is new or changing. The presentation will also cover a refresher on the rules that haven’t changed.
About the speaker:
Ross Carmichael graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in history. He played professional basketball in Europe before returning to Texas and attending Texas A&M University School of Law.
In 2008, Carmichael became an investigator with the Department of Labor’s Employee Benefits Security Administration, leading its Dallas Regional Oil & Gas Project and its HIPAA and Affordable Care Act Compliance Project. In his time at the DOL, Carmichael received the Secretary of Labor’s Exceptional Achievement Award for his work on the Health Disclosure and Claims Issues Project.
Since joining Higginbotham, Carmichael has presented before hundreds of employers and participated in numerous panels for various business organizations throughout Texas. He has been interviewed by CBS News and the New York Times, and he also helps represent Higginbotham on the National Association of Health Underwriter’s Principal Council and Legislative Counsel, and its Compliance Corner committee. He has been named a “Top ERISA Attorney” by Fort Worth, Texas Magazine and been a recipient of the Fort Worth Business Press’ “40 Under 40” award.
This program is pending 1.00 recertification credit towards PHR, SPHR, and GPHR through HRCI and 1.00 Professional Development Credit towards SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP recertification through SHRM.
